Baking Breads

There's nothing better than a warm slice of bread any time of the day. This is a hands-on class in which students will gets to sample different breads they make. Take the recipes home and enjoy them again with your family. This class has an additional $10 lab fee.

Canning Salsa

A member of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension will review the basics of canning in time for spring. Can salsa by combining tomatoes, peppers with a variety of spices., and plan your gardening season for future canning. The additional $5 lab fee for the class will cover for food costs and for jars, but students should bring two potholders to class.

Cooking Clean

Have you ever wondered what goes into your food or the process involved before it arrives on your table? The class will explain the idea behind eating clean, which means food that is not genetically modified or raised with pesticides. Students will also make a few food following the approach, including soup, beet salad and chocolate avocado mousse. This class has an additional $15 lab fee.

Learn about healthy meal preparation and sensible shopping on a limited budget. Prepare the meal along with the chef and then receive a free bag of groceries for you to make one of the recipes at home each week. Graduation certificate, recipe book and other free items provided upon completition of the program.

Fermenting Vegetables

This hands-on food preservation workshop taught by a member of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension will teach the basic steps for fermenting; preserving equipment, recommended recipes and ingredients. Enjoy the wonders and ease of fermentation with a batch of vegetable ferments, like sauerkraut and kimchi, learn the steps in fermentation, and take your first batch of kimchi home. The cost of class includes an additional $20 lab fee.

Soups and Stews

The weather is still cold outside so it's a good time to cook soups and stews. Join a member of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in learning to make something new and different to delight your family. Take home the recipes to enjoy them at home. This class will be hands-on and will include a meal of soups and stews for participants. This class has an additional $10 lab fee.
